WASP Graduate School gives a number of courses exclusively for the WASP Graduate School students, one set of courses for the AI-track and one set of courses for the AS-track and a common set of courses for the joint classes. Some of the courses are mandatory, others are elective. PhD students on the AI track and in the joint curriculum should take 27hp, while students in the AS track should take 24hp. Most courses require some travelling.

Curricula for the joint classes, and the AI and AS tracks respectively are described under WASP graduate school.

All courses are elective for all PhD students in the WASP graduate school. If there are a limited number of seats, priority is given to students for whom the course is mandatory given that they register on time.

The mandatory, foundational* and introductory WASP courses are given every year. Prioritized** and elective courses are given every second year. The courses are independent of each other and can be read in any order. However, if you plan to take the introductory courses we recommend that you start with those. Also, depending on your background you may find it useful to start with the foundational courses before taking elective courses within the corresponding field.

Most of the courses include 1-3 two-day meetings arranged at different places, normally one of the WASP universities. The meetings appear as items in the intranet calendar. By clicking them you will get all practical information needed.

The WASP course program is not sufficient to meet the requirements for your PhD degree. You must take additional courses at your university. For guidance please turn to your supervisor.

*Foundational courses refer to the joint curriculum

**Prioritized courses refer to the AI track

Registration

You will be invited to the courses by email. In the email there is a button linking you to a form, where you sign up or decline the invitation. Please always reply! The registration link is personal and should not be used by anyone else.  After submitting your registration, you will receive a confirmation email. It contains an “edit link” which can be used to change your registration or to cancel your participation. Note that you must register also for mandatory courses.

If you are invited subject to availability you will be informed after the deadline for registration if you cannot be admitted.

Travel and Accommodation

All students are individually responsible for their travel and accomodation arrangements. For PhD Students funded by WASP, the cost is covered by their individual travel budget.

Lunch, Coffee and Dinner

WASP handles all costs concerning lunches, coffee and dinner for both funded and affiliated students. Lunches and coffee are automatically included for all registered participants, but you must sign up for the dinners.

You inform the organizers about food allergies and if you prefer vegan or vegetarian food in the registration form. Other food preferences can unfortunately not be met.

Information

The courses are administrated through CANVAS KTH (see below) and you will find information there. If you have any questions, contacts are given in the intranet calendar items.

If you for some reason cannot participate in the course, it is important that you cancel:

  • Your hotel booking
  • Your course registration
    • Before registration deadline – use the “edit link” in the confirmation email sent upon registration
    • After registration deadline – inform the responsible person at the program office and the person responsible for the course (see the intranet calendar)

Canvas KTH

The WASP courses use Canvas at KTH for administration.

Those who are logged in with a KTH.se account do not have to log in to Canvas, since it is a part of the infrastructure at KTH.

If you do not have a KTH.se-account the Program Office will take care of this. Once the identity is created you can use it for all coming courses where Canvas at KTH is used. Note that external users must use a specific login link.

The examiner will inform the Program Office when you have completed a course. A course certificate is sent by email from the Program Office to you. You need the course certificate for reporting the course and credits in the administration system used at your university. You are responsible for initiating this process according to your local routines. For guidance, turn to your supervisor. The number of credits stated in the certificate is a recommendation given by WASP Graduate School. However, this is a local decision, often by your supervisor or your director of studies.
