The terms “classes” and “batches” are recurring concepts within WASP and frequently used terms in our communications. They also generate many questions, making it useful to clarify their meaning and usage.
Why classes and batches?
The class or batch you belong to is your primary base for networking and will most likely be an important part of your future professional network. Classes and batches are used to define who is invited to what activity in a given time. This affects, for example, invitations to international study trips, summer schools and the Winter Conference.
PhD students enrolled after the 1st of April 2021
All PhD students enrolled in the WASP Graduate School belong to a class. A new class is initiated every year after the Community building summer school in August.
PhD students enrolled before the 1st of April 2021
All PhD students enrolled in the WASP Graduate School before the 1st of April 2021 belong to a batch. There are different batches for AI and AS. Students in the same batch take mandatory WASP courses together and participate in WASP activities together. Some PhD students who originally belonged to AI Batch 2 have changed curriculum and belong to Class 2021.
