In 2025, WASP celebrates its 10th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate this than to kick it off with the annual Winter Conference.

Please note that each participant must arrange their own accommodation and travel.

Program overview 

In addition to the main conference program, some activities are exclusive for certain groups. When you select your role in the registration form, you will see any additional activities you can choose to participate in.

January 14 – Pre-conference: Introduction new PhD students and their supervisors

PhD students who started in 2024 or will start in January 2025 and their supervisors are invited to the introductory pre-conference. Attendance is mandatory for PhD students and optional for supervisors. It is recommended if you are new as supervisor in WASP.

January 15-16 – Main conference

Up to 600 people from the WASP community will join the main conference for program updates, research presentations, poster sessions and cluster meetings. There will also be awards and a ceremony for our 2024 graduates.

The main conference is mandatory for all PhD students and exceptions to attend must be approved by your supervisor.

Awards

Alumni of the Year recognizes and celebrates the outstanding achievements of WASP graduates. Our alumni can make a real difference across the globe in a variety of ways. Through the Alumni of the Year award, WASP seeks to acknowledge persons that have made a contribution to the local, national and international communities.

The winner is revealed and will receive the award at the conference dinner on January 15. The winner will also have a presentation during the plenary session on January 16.

Nominate a candidate

A Best Poster Award will be granted to three PhD students that participates in the poster sessions.

A Best Thesis of the Year Award will be granted to one PhD student.

The nomination and evaluation process will involve the WASP Research Management Group, the University Representative Group, and supervisors of eligble* PhDs. The winner is selected by the WASP International Scientific Advisory Board.

*PhD students that have defended during the period October 1, 2023-September 30, 2024.
