Registration is now open for the joint conference “Research Opportunities at the Intersection of Society, Life Sciences, and Technology.” The event will take place May 7–8, 2026 at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress.
This conference brings together researchers from WASP, WASP-HS, and DDLS to explore new research opportunities across AI, data-driven life science, and societal perspectives on technology. For the WASP community, it is a chance to meet colleagues across programs, exchange ideas, and discover new collaborations.
The two-day program includes international keynote speakers, parallel workshop sessions, a panel discussion, flash presentations from funded projects (NEST and Research Initiation Grants), a poster session, and dedicated time for networking. Topics include the use of machine learning and foundation models in biomedical research, precision medicine and large-scale health data, and advances in robotics and autonomous systems. The program will also address broader questions around governance, ethics, and the societal implications of AI, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between technical, life science, and social science researchers.
Keynote speakers include:
-
Maja Fjaestad, Associate Professor and Pro Vice-Chancellor at Karolinska Institutet, whose work explores the governance of emerging technologies and the relationship between science and society.
-
Olli Kallioniemi, Professor of Molecular Precision Medicine at the University of Helsinki and a leading researcher in systems medicine and functional precision oncology.
-
Danica Kragic, Professor of Computer Science at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and an internationally recognized researcher in robotics and autonomous systems.
Registration is open from March 16 to April 16.
