Looking back at this winter, a lot of exciting things have happened. During the WASP winter conference, we received the news that Linnea Persson was awarded the Alumni of the Year award 2022, a great accomplishment for which we congratulate her. During her time as a PhD student, Linnea worked closely with WARA-PS while conducting practical tests. As a part of her speech at the WASP winter conference she mentions the importance of practical work in addition to scientific work.

WARA-PS aims to continue providing PhD students with the opportunity to conduct field test and data collection in the real world, and as spring approaches we are planning the upcoming data collection and demonstration events that are taking place at Gränsö.

Data collection and demonstration at Gränsö 2023

Over the years, the Gränsö events have evolved to become a hub where researchers can meet, perform tests, and demonstrate results. Furthermore, we are constantly working on finding new ways to utilize the environment that Gränsö offers in order to provide researchers and PhD students with the data and the experiment setups they need.

As soon as week 19, we are going to Gränsö to conduct data collections and prepare for the demonstration week by implementing and testing new technologies and functionality. In September, we will be at Gränsö during week 36 and 38. The focus during week 36 will be on planning and testing in preparation for the demonstration week that will take place during week 38. During week 38, we will return to Gränsö to showcase the use of autonomous heterogeneous agents in collaborative missions in Public Safety related scenarios.

WASP-PS Summer School

In addition to the events at Gränsö, WARA-PS is also involved in other activities for PhD students. WARA-PS is for example arranging a summer school focusing on the fundamentals of developing heterogeneous autonomous systems (of systems) as well as how to effectively participate in demonstrator-driven research. The participants will also gain unique experience in hands-on field robotics research methodology by learning to interact with the WARA-PS Core Systems. The summer school will be led by Mattias Tiger, a WASP alumnus who has worked closely with WARA-PS during his PhD, and who is now doing his postdoctoral at Linköping University while also working as an AI and autonomy expert at the SAAB startup The Rainforest.

We are also aiming to partake in the WASP project courses.
